BlackBerry resigns dozen employees - Info Online

São Paulo – The maker of BlackBerry smartphones cut dozens of jobs in its sales force in the United States on Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The layoffs are part of a program of cuts that has been ongoing for several weeks in the Canadian company, the sources said the paper.

“I can confirm that a small number of employees were laid off today,” said a spokesman for the company to WSJ, without providing further details.

BlackBerry, which has seen its market share shrink and be taken by rivals such as Apple’s iPhone and phones that use the Android system, Google said last month it was evaluating its options, which could include an immediate sale.

The news of layoffs was first published by the Canadian technology blog Cantech Letter.

BlackBerry could not immediately be contacted by Reuters for comment outside U.S. business hours.
