BlackBerry ponders firing 40% of its staff - Público.pt

Canadian BlackBerry is preparing a restructuring plan that will eliminate five thousand jobs, about 40% of its workforce.

This is the way the mobile phone manufacturer to adapt its structure to the reality of a market that has been losing market share and competitiveness to rivals like Apple and Samsung, reports the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The American newspaper, citing sources close to the company says that this wave of redundancies will affect all areas and will take place in different places.

“We will make changes in the organization to ensure that we have the right people in the right roles,” the WSJ said a spokesman for the company, without comment, however, the dismissal of 40% of staff.

The news comes about a month after the maker of smartphones have announced the creation of a committee to revise strategic alternatives for its viability.
