announced BlackBerry has accepted an offer to purchase equivalent to 3500 million which should be subject to review over the next six weeks
What started as a simple rumor turned out to be confirmed: the BlackBerry announced it had accepted a proposal for the purchase of 4,700 million dollars, or the equivalent of 3,500 million euros. The proposal came from a consortium led by Fairfax Financial Holdings, which should be subject to review over the next six weeks.
The Canadian company, which in turn has acknowledged the possibility of being acquired, still looking for other potential buyers hoping to find a superior offer. Already a Fairfax, which currently holds about 10% of the company led by Thorsten Heins, offered $ 9 for each of the actions of the BlackBerry, although the development of this acquisition is still dependent on a guarantee of funding.
Once a major players in the market for smartphones, the BlackBerry faced – such as Finnish Nokia – a significant drop in sales of its devices. The new generation of BlackBerry 10 smartphones, introduced earlier this year, was seen as the last major event of the company to re-affirm the market, but sales of its new handsets were far short of the initial expectations.
