It is no longer a novelty the chaotic situation of BlackBerry, which is going from bad to worse, and according to a report released by the company on Friday (27), the second-quarter loss was nearly $ 1 billion. Were even $ 935 million in losses and apparently the culprit was the smartphone Z10.

But the smartphone has not reached success estimated by the company, sales were few and eventually stop producing in stock, which caused even a negative impact with its suppliers.

Return to the corporate segment may provide survival for Blackberry - veja.com

Analysis

James Della Valle

Canadian Blackberry manufacturer, formerly known as Research in Motion (RIM), is in a delicate situation. After years of fighting for space in the smartphone market, dominated by rivals such as Samsung and Apple, the company finally confirmed last Monday, which was expected : the company should be sold. A bid in the amount of $ 4.7 billion was held by the American insurer Fairfax Financial Holdings, its largest shareholder, and can create a new growth opportunity for the Canadian company – which reported a quarterly loss of nearly $ 1 billion on Friday Friday.

Founded in 1998, the Blackberry has been known as the leading smartphone manufacturer on the planet, coming to be worth more than $ 100 billion in 2007. Despite the success in the corporate sector, the company did not have the chops to keep up with user demand for appliances in general more accessible and innovative. With the launch of the first iPhone by Apple, also in 2007, the market suffered a lurch as soon understood by companies like Samsung, LG, Nokia and Motorola.

ignore the phenomenon of touchscreens, the BlackBerry has lost market share. The company currently dominates only 2.4% of the sector, leaving behind Microsoft with 3.7% – according to data from consultancy International Data Corporation (IDC). “It’s a shame to see a company like Blackberry, which brought us phones with e-mail and other features, has been unable to respond to all these changes,” said Carolina Milanesi, analyst at Gartner.

The acquisition is expected to transform the Blackberry in a privately held company, outside the stock exchange, which should give time for a restructuring. “Certainly, it will take time to develop a new market vision with strategies to move forward,” says Fernando Belfort, leading technology division of Frost & Sullivan. For the analyst, the output is in the back to the roots, ie, investment in corporate clients. “The Blackberry has put much effort in the segment of consumer products in general, but we know that few companies can do this successfully. Focus on the business sector is what she needs to grow back. “

In the first half, the company launched two smartphone models: the Z10, the touchscreen, and Q10, with physical keyboard. Both were viewed favorably by analysts because they brought an updated version of the operating system developed by the company itself, the Blackberry 10. But the verdict of the user, who ignored devices.

losses resulting from bad decisions forced Blackberry cut 4,500 employees , or 40% of its workforce in the world. Even so, the smartphone maker has tried one more trump card, launching the Z30 model, which would compete with the iPhone 5s from Apple and Galaxy S4, Samsung. Sales of new disasters.

Despite offering excellent security solutions to corporate users, the Blackberry not able to adapt to the casual user who enjoys gaming and entertainment applications. Technical difficulties imposed by its platform developers away, avoiding the maximum spending resources to adapt their programs.

Given this scenario, the best option would be the same total dedication to the corporate segment. But if this is not possible, the company may end up being completely debt, with its technology patents disputed by the competition.

TB Cast # 47 - BlackBerry and gadgets of the week - Tecnoblog (Blog)

The past week was marked by more negative news about the BlackBerry, which announced layoffs, loss billionaire and delayed release of BBM for Android and iPhone. @ MOBILON, paulohiga @, @ and @ therealgiovana ealecrim comment on the crisis and the main BlackBerry gadgets announced and launched in the week, as new generations of Surface and Kindle Fire, the Moto X and the new iMacs with upgraded hardware.

Congratulations on being in the top podcasts on iTunes! I already gave the ’6 ‘starlets

Last year I bought a kindle amazed to see a friend using. After a lot of research I decided to buy the version 3 (keyboard) because he has the option of reading aloud.

Really

he reads the texts (like it), but only in English, at least it’s something. I even tried to ‘jailbreak’ and put a voice in Portuguese, despite a tutorial video working, unfortunately I could not: S

The second thing that disappointed me was that I can not sync books between the device and the mobile and desktop applications. With books downloaded by amazom works perfectly, but the books down and placed on the intenet kindle can only be read there.

Anyway, I’m very disappointed because I expected more. I read a book today (Valley Girl) even downloaded the amazon.
Note: read the phone for the convenience of already being in hand with the device and read a little each time time job.

Hello everyone, good morning.

I was listening to the excellent TBCast when you talked about the iPhone, TouchID and American espionage, when they spoke “What Obama’s interest in what I do?”

discussion on this topic is much deeper than that, but first I would like to say that both the media and the government are paying attention to this TOO, because the truth is that everyone, if it does not, should be doing spying on your competitors and enemies. The problem is not the U.S. adopt this practice … The real problem is not Brazil be prepared to avoid that. Guilt is OURS, our ingenuity.

For ordinary people, like me, you or anyone zé apparently no interest in a government or company know of your life. But the truth is that yes there is … We are all interesting and some time or other such data may be used in some way to ensure a benefit to someone.

A company that makes any kind of trade could have their businesses affected by a competitor, if he knew his paces in advance. Imagine, for example, a Boeing know one years before on a project of a new Embraer aircraft? Or BP know about some kind of commercial partnership between Petrobras and some Middle Eastern government?

not need to go that far … Just you being a director of a company that sells orange juice … Imagine if the Chinese discover that you will sell juice to the U.S., and resolve to offer buyers the same product with lower price?

All this is in the Gmail … Yahoo Mail in Outlook … And the government can analyze this data to automatically extract information.

YES, it’s all automatic. There is a person who reads this, but the software is so good, but so good, he does manage to catalog the most important information, and direct the rightful owner.

hard, in all this, is to give the tools we love. It is undeniable that Gmail, GDocs, Dropbox, Facebook, Smartphones, and many other tools we use are excellent and are part of our day-to-day. Give them up is not easy … But we are all aware, knowing that one hour that information can actually be used for something even imagine.

To an opponent of government … then he practically glows on some electronic panel within some government building … If the guy has different political ideas of what “they” want, no problem … but if “they” think that guy can “infect” others with their ideas, and cause problems in the future, they will be able to shut the guy before he even be noticed by someone.

is paranoia? Maybe not … But who cares, right? We are there, using Gmail, Facebook and Android … Either that, or we were out of the world.

Thanks guys, great cast!

About iPhone 5c, in my guesses flippant, I think it was rather a low-cost model … for Apple, not to consumers. I have no idea what the cost of production of the iPhone 5 in relation to the traditional iPhone 5c, but the fact of eliminating completely the previous model leads me to believe that a product made to cut costs. And not necessarily a lower cost to the end consumer. In short: a way Apple profit more with less.

Regarding the question

Processor Operating System X (in smartphones), is a matter of evolution. But the iPhone 5s today, despite being 42x faster, applications will not run with this ratio of speed as your iOS and applications also require more of him. Fatally, just updating the iOS to get the news and support of apps, but if we continue using the iOS native of time the device was released, this feeling that the phone became a “wagon” would be less noticeable (or not exist .) It is redundant to say that, yes. But it is good to reflect a little. Oh, I loved the Touch ID! :-)

U.S. government guarantees the survival BlackBerry - D24am.com

Washington – The changes that occur to a snail’s pace in Washington affected the popularity of political leaders. But in the case of BlackBerry, the tendency of the federal government to move slowly offers some hope. That’s because the government is the largest customer of BlackBerry and even with the rest of the world abandoning the smartphone business and by exchanging Samsung Galaxy and iPhones, BlackBerry, devoid of applications, remains the basic unit in Washington.

course in recent years the government has reduced its purchases of BlackBerry. But the abandonment of the device has been taking a much slower pace than occurred with the market.

agencies often enter into contracts to purchase long-term in the case of mobile devices – sometimes three or more years – and many departments have renewed their contracts with the BlackBerry this year. This means that federal agencies like the Department of State or the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will be giving employees these devices for years, analysts say.

“The domain BlackBerry under the government peaked in 2011, but the unit still reigns among the smartphones used by the government,” said Geoff Celhar analyst Govini company that does research contracts signed by the government and published report yesterday on the agreement with BlackBerry. “This area of ??private business with the government is a great opportunity and an asset in the survival strategy or dissolution of a company.”

The State Department has increased its spending on BlackBerry devices this year. Already the DEA did not alter its budget. Even the Department of Defense, which opened over their purchasing policy apparatus to include Android smartphones and iPhones, BlackBerrys acquired 470,000 of a total of 600,000 phones.

Change. But the tide seems to be changing. The Army has reduced by two-thirds their purchases from BlackBerry devices since 2011. “The challenges faced by the State Department around the world require their employees to have 24 hour access to communications to which its operations are effective,” said spokesman Steve Aguzin. “For these communications are ensured, which is essential to U.S. missions abroad, the BlackBerry is currently the only approved cell that meets the constraints in terms of security of the Department.”

Overall the federal government spent more than $ 40 million to buy BlackBerry phones in 2013, a decrease of 57% compared with purchases made in 2011, according to a report by Govini.

In the consumer market more generally, Waterloo, based in Canada, was in the forefront, but quickly lost importance, with only 3% of the smartphone market in the second quarter, according to research firm IDC.

Last week, the company announced a loss of $ 1 billion in its last quarter, especially because of a writedown of its BlackBerry 10 devices, whose sales were depressing.

But the company also has $ 2.6 billion in cash and no debt. For analysts, its robust financial position will be of great help to your area of ??research and development of new products targeted for safety.

New investors

On Monday the BlackBerry accepted a takeover offer of $ 4.7 billion made by the private equity firm Fairfax Financial. The new investors plan to revamp the company’s focus and regain its image as a provider of software services and secure email.

“We believe this transaction will open a fascinating new chapter for the BlackBerry,” said Prem Watsa, CEO of Fairfax Financial, announcing the deal on Monday. “We can immediately provide more gains to shareholders, while we will continue to implement a long term strategy of a company focused on providing solutions and top-level security for BlackBerry customers worldwide.”

To some extent, the perception that the BlackBerry is safer than other devices helped the company win contracts in the federal government, analysts say. His first software platforms were closed to outside developers and the company has long advertises its service encrypted email.

Some analysts pointed out deficiencies in the marketing of the BlackBerry as the most secure phone, saying that hackers managed to breach their systems. But some federal agencies appear to be slow in adopting other phones to employees and are still testing the Apple iPhone and other devices that use the Android operating system from Google.

According to analysts, the agencies are loosening their policies in this area and BlackBerry failed to prove how will regain lost customers. The State Department and DEA already studying alternatives for the unit.
