class=”c2″> The Polytechnic Institute of Setubal (IPS) hosts since last December the first Tech Center of BlackBerry domestically. Located on the premises of the School of Technology of Setúbal IPS, this center is part of the academic program of the BlackBerry and materializes in space with all the resources, tools and equipment required for testing and development of new applications for mobile phones tablets and other BlackBerry devices.

The first initiative

The first initiative of the Tech Center was well received in the academic community. The Hackathon was a challenge put to the test the creative ability of teams in just 10 hours, had to develop applications for BlackBerry.

Participating teams created projects with many different uses, from applications on wines to the social networking and games. The winning team, the Hotwheels, composed by Bruno Malheiro, Paulo Mendes and Diogo Martins, students of the degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at ESTSetúbal-IPS, created the Racing Game application, a game that consists of transporting a ball through a maze, in which the movement of the ball is generated by moving the phone.

Renata Coutinho, Ambassador of the Tech Center, proved to be ‘very satisfied’ with the accession to this initiative, which included 30 participants, including students, programmers and designers . “The teams were very well prepared, which is a proof that the people here have the capacity to innovate and create applications’.
