Toronto – The maker of BlackBerry smartphones hired a former executive at Sony Ericsson to lead his deficit mobile devices business, a job that requires a strong effort to regain sales companies and consumers attracted by larger rivals.

Ron Louks assumes the position of president of emerging devices and solutions, the company said in a statement on Monday.

Blackberry pioneered the production of smartphones, but lost much of its market to Apple’s iPhone and devices using Android technology, Google.

Currently, the Canadian company shifted focus to consumer service market to serve businesses, governments and other large organizations.
