BlackBerry can be purchased by one of its founders - Info Online

co-founder of BlackBerry, Mike Lazaridis, increased its stake in smartphone maker and is considering buying the entire company.

Lazaridis, who currently controls 8 percent of the company, hired Goldman Sachs and Centerview Partners LLC to help with a strategic review of participation. The businessman had nearly 5.7 percent in late 2012, according to data from Thomson Reuters.

Document registered on Thursday reported that Lazaridis, who stepped down as co-president in early 2012, made the move along with the other founder Douglas Fregin.

The duo, who founded the company known then as Research In Motion in 1985, this year created the Quantum Valley Investments to support new business computing and quantum physics.

A deal like this could be an alternative to the preliminary offer of $ 9 per share by a group led by the largest shareholder of the BlackBerry, Canada’s Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd.

BlackBerry went on sale in August after registering poor sales of its devices.
