Setúbal Polytechnic welcomes the first "Tech Center" of ... - LOCAL.PT

SETBAL – The Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS) inaugurated last December 17, the first “Tech Center” of the BlackBerry in the country. Located on the premises of the School of Technology of Setúbal Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (ESTSetúbal / IPS), this project is part of the academic program of the Blackberry materializing a technological center with all necessary test equipment and resources development new applications for mobile phones, tablets and other BlackBerry devices.

Dr. Armando Pires welcomed the fact that the IPS has been chosen to host the first “Tech Center” of BlackBerry in Portugal, which is “a demonstration of the capability and spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship of the institution ‘, recently acknowledged the award of 1st place in the National Competition ‘Valorisation of Knowledge and Development of Entrepreneurship 2013′, organized by COTEC Portugal.

For Mayor of Setubal, installing this “Tech Center” in the BlackBerry Setúbal, particularly in IPS ‘is a clear demonstration of the capabilities of our academic and our Polytechnic School of Technology’. In your opinion, Setúbal became part of the select group of European cities receiving these technological laboratories and that will surely attract to the city “more knowledge, more skills, and even more development.”

Nuno Pereira was pleased to receive the new “Tech Center” on the premises of ESTSetúbal / IPS, stressing the right conditions so that we can do a good job, since “we have a community of students young, dynamic, with specific training in informatics, which being inserted into a campus that has a number of other schools and other facilities, will enable the creation of multidisciplinary groups’, promoting innovation within the IPS and benefiting the users of BlackBerry.

Hackathon – Marathon Blackberry Apps

The first initiative of the “Tech Center”, the “Hackathon”, took place the next day [December 18] and consisted of a marathon that put to the test the creative ability of teams in just ten hours had to develop applications for BlackBerry

Participating teams created projects with many different uses, from applications on wines to the social networking and gaming. The winning team, the “Hotwheels” composed by Bruno Malheiro, Paulo Mendes and Diogo Martins, students of the degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at ESTSetúbal / IPS, created the “Racing Game” application, a game based on carriage a ball through a maze, in which the movement of the ball is generated by moving the phone.
