BlackBerry in red in the third quarter - State of Minas

The Canadian maker of BlackBerry smartphones fell in red in the third quarter of this year, with a loss of $ 4.4 billion, after a profit of $ 9 billion a year earlier.

loss is four times higher than in the previous quarter.

BlackBerry sales are in free fall, with a turnover of 1.2 billion in the third quarter, or 56% less than the same quarter of 2012.

The extent of loss is caused, according to the BlackBerry, a load of 4.6 billion by the depreciation of assets and excess inventory.

group difficulties remain, after the shock of the second quarter, when the company announced a loss of about $ 1 billion and the elimination of 4,500 jobs, 40% of its staff.

To avoid bankruptcy, the BlackBerry sought to be bought by its largest shareholder, Fairfax, valued at $ 9 per share. The offer valued the company at 4.7 billion.

Fairfax could not finish the plan.

BlackBerry has 70 million users worldwide, but most use older phones, and the BlackBerry 10 could not stand firm in the market.
