São Paulo – The official app of the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for iOS and Android has not yet been released by the company, but cybercriminals managed to infect hundreds of users by means of a false application.
The program has been identified by Kaspersky Lab as “Blackberry Messenger – BBM” and was present in the app store like Play Store, Google.
This application was focused on English-speaking users, but analysts at Kaspersky evaluated an application available in Latin America and found that it was a fake and no developer relations company BlackBerry.
download the application and accept the “terms and conditions”, a program called “Airpush” is installed along with the fake BBM.
This app may collect certain information, including the Android ID, IP address, modify or delete data from the SD card, a list of applications that are running and installing and removing the file system of the phone.
“terms and conditions” faux BBM Airpush also mentions that you can receive internet content and interact with their geographical location. In addition, the program also serves as an adware, displaying unwanted advertisements on mobile.
According to Kaspersky, the fake BBM has been removed from the Play Store, but obtained the data from more than 300 IDs during the few hours that he was active. And this number may represent an even greater amount of Android devices infected.
To protect yourself, Kaspersky suggests always check the application information before you download it as data from the developer, the app entry in the Play Store and monitor official announcements of companies.
