A report published this week by research firm Canalys revealed that most of the applications considered top available for Android and iOS, can not yet be found in the app store Windows Phone and BlackBerry. Together, Windows Phone and BlackBerry have only 34% of applications between 50 and 50 free apps over paid apps downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.

Windows Phone offers 16 of the 50 most popular free applications downloaded from the App Store and 14 among the 50 most downloaded paid apps. Compared with Google Play, Windows Phone offers 22 of the 50 most downloaded free apps and 13 among the 50 most downloaded paid programs.

For BlackBerry, the situation is a bit more worrying. The BlackBerry Application World offers only five among the 50 most popular free apps from the App Store and nine of the 50 most downloaded paid apps. Compared with Google Play, the BlackBerry World offers 11 paid apps and 11 free apps among the 50 most downloaded free and paid categories.

“The availability of apps is one of the key factors that motivate consumers to buy a smartphone,” said Tim Shepherd, senior analyst at Canalys. “Consumers of handsets with Windows Phone and BlackBerry OS must not forget the most important apps, contact with famous brands or the last games of the moment because of the choice OS” complete.

The analyst explains that success does not depend on the amount of applications, but the quality of them. “It is no use offering 100 apps weather forecast. BlackBerry and Microsoft need to invest in certain apps, focusing on quality and relevance, not quantity, “concludes Shepherd.
