Amid the turmoil, while searching for a new CEO, and after giving up being sold, the BlackBerry smartphone unveiled its first premium of the new era: the Porsche Design P9982.
The new model will go on sale tomorrow at Porsche Design stores and some mobile operators, for about $ 2250 – 1664 euros. It is coated with Italian leather and stainless steel, and there will also be a limited edition of 500 ‘Crocodile’, on sale in early December.
Regarding technical specifications, Porsche smartphone is similar to the Z10 with a custom version of the BlackBerry operating system 10.2. It has a dual-core Qualcomm 1.5 GHz and 2 gigs of RAM. The screen is 4.2 inches and the internal memory is 64 gigabytes – a substantial difference over the standard Z10 – and with the possibility to expand to 64 more gigs.
addition to the BlackBerry specific applications such as BBM Now, BBM and BlackBerry Video Story Maker brings the P’9982 Porsche Design’s unique applications, such as games, videos, music and productivity applications.
Forbes compares this partnership with Vertu, the luxury mobile phone manufacturer who is now facing Android.
“Again, with the collaboration led to a BlackBerry device that implements our ‘Iconic Style’ without compromise,” commented the Porsche Design Group CEO, Juergen Gessler. “With the P’9982 have extended our portfolio of luxury and modern smartphones have established ourselves as market leaders in this segment.”
The first collaboration between Porsche and BlackBerry happened in 2008. The Vice President of Design at BlackBerry, Alistair Hamilton, described the phone as a cross between the “power of BlackBerry 10″ and “unique design of an iconic brand.”
