BlackBerry dismiss 250 employees in new wave of cost cutting - Terra Brazil

July 25, 2013 15h57

The BlackBerry laid off about 250 employees at its headquarters in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, as part of its latest move to cut costs, the smartphone maker said on Thursday.

“That’s part of the next phase of our recovery plan to increase efficiency and expand our business,” said a spokesman for the BlackBerry. The company, which last year cut thousands of jobs, recently hinted that further reductions may occur in the near future.

Last month, the BlackBerry reported disappointing quarterly results, which caused a 28 percent drop in its share price.

The company, which had about 12,700 full-time employees on March 2, said the employees being laid off were part of the unit test new products.
