The device is codenamed “Jakarta” but gained a trading name of Z3. It is a partnership between the BlackBerry and Foxconn, which seeks to migrate design and production of low cost handsets out of the company.
Z3 has a 5-inch touchscreen and will be equipped with BlackBerry OS 10.2.1. It should cost less than $ 200 at retail. The company did not disclose other technical details per hour.
“It will be a very, very attractive to the handset market,” said John Chen during a news conference at the MWC 2014. “When I entered the phone market, I was told it would take between 9 and 12 months to have a device ready to be sold. In less than three months the phone is ready, tested and now we are working on distribution,” Chen said.
